چکیده

X-ray rocking curve and topograph measurements were carried out at CHESS in Cornell University in November 2006. The purpose of this experiment was to check if the X-ray facility at CHESS is suitable to be used for GlueX in assessing diamond crystal quality and investigating radiation damage and surface deformation induced by milling. After modifying the C1 beam line by using an asymmetry silicon (111) monochromator and a channel cut silicon (220) monochromator, the x-ray beam was well suited to assess diamond for GlueX. The minimum rocking curve full width at half maximum (FWHM) we obtained is around 30μr. A pixel detector was used to record the topograph image. 2 D maps of diamond rocking curve width were generated, which tell precisely how the diamond quality is at each point across the crystal. The rocking curve peak positions vary dramatically over the measured regions, which gives evidence that the 20 microns thick diamond crystal is badly deformed. This indicates that the crystal thinning and the crystal mounting methods should be improved.

Measurement of Strain and Lattice Tilt at the Margins of Thin Film Islands on Single-crystal Substrates by Double-crystal X-ray Topography

Various amounts of strain and lattice deformation were introduced into <111> Si substrates by the deposition of amorphous Si films of different thicknesses. Strain and deformation are concentrated along the film edges and were recorded as contrast in double-crystal X-ray topograph (DXRT) images. The contrast in the DXRT images was measured and was related to lattice deformation by means of the ...

A uniformly cleaved epitaxically grown diamond crystal for synchrotron radiation.

A homoepitaxic single-crystal diamond (111) film grown by microwave-assisted chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and fractured along the [110] directions to form small triangles was investigated by X-ray double-crystal topography. The X-ray topographic image showed that all parts of the cleaved CVD diamond film sections uniformly reflected X-rays at the peak position of the rocking curve, which wa...

Etching Methods for Improving Surface Imperfections of Diamonds Used for X-ray Monochromators

In the last decade, diamond single crystals have become valuable monochromators for high-heat-load X-ray synchrotron beamlines. However, due to imperfections in the diamond, the rocking curves of diamond crystals are wider (e.g, 30%) than the theoretical values. Proper etching of the diamond can reduce the effects of imperfections. We explore four etching techniques using synthetic diamonds of ...

بررسی تابش کانالی از ‌بلور‌های الماس به منظور تهیه پرتو X تک انرژی درشتاب دهنده خطی الکترون ELBE

The measurements of electron Channeling Radiation (CR) have been performed at ELBE linear electron accelerator of the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. The aim of performing these experiments was to optimize radiation yield and spectral line width of CR in order to apply channeling radiation for preparing a monochromatic X-ray source. Diamond crystals can be used in relatively high electron...

Stress Mitigation of X-ray Beamline Monochromators using a Topography Test Unit

Silicon and diamond monochromators (crystals), often used in the Advanced Photon Source X-ray beamlines, require a good quality surface finish and stress-free installation to ensure optimal performance. The device used to mount the crystal has been shown to be a major contributing source of stress. In this case, an adjustable mounting device is an effective method of reducing stresses and impro...
